Congratulations to Stella for being our September Mountain Lion of the Month. Stella has been working hard in class and is showing her Mountain Lion life skills everyday. She is kind and helpful to her teachers and friends. We are so glad that Stella is in Room 11 at Nate Mack.

The Nate Mack PTO is hosting our annual Nate Mack Harvest Festival on Friday, October 20th! This is a super fun school event where families are invited to participate in games, booths, raffles, and an auction. There will also be music playing with food and drinks available. More information about the actual Harvest Festival will be on the Nate Mack website (macksites.weebly.com). In support of the event, each classroom will be preparing a themed basket to be included in a silent auction that evening.
Our basket theme is Picture Books. If you are able to, please donate a new item to our classroom basket. We will gratefully accept any items that fit our theme. Items can be placed in your child’s backpack and sent to school or dropped off at the front office with our classroom information on it. The last day to contribute an item will be Friday, October 13th. The classroom baskets are always a big hit at the silent auction! Proceeds from the basket will go towards supporting our school with technology, books, playground equipment and other resources!! Thanks everyone!! to edit. This week we read the book The Recess Queen by Alexis O'Neill. We focused on answering Who, What, Where, When questions. For Teddy Bear Day we read the book Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman. We loved bringing our bears to school and reading with them.
In Library class this week we checked out our first book. Library books are due on Thursday. On Monday, September 11 there is a School Organizational Team Meeting at 3:00pm in the Stem Learning Library. Everyone is welcome to attend. On Wednesday, September 13 there is a PTO Meeting at 2:30 in the Stem Learning Library. Everyone is welcome to attend. Friday is CiCi's Pizza Day. Envelopes will come home on Monday. Friday is also Movie Night at Nate Mack. Doors open at 5:45 pm. There will be refreshments for sale. Bring the whole family and enjoy Lego Batman. Your Life Book assignment this week is to write about your bedroom. If you have a picture you can include it in your book or you can draw a picture or map of how it looks. Label your picture too. Write at least 5 sentences describing your room. Practice reading your Life Book so you are ready to share it with the class.
This week we read the book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. We created a chart for each crayon and listed the problem the crayon was having and found evidence in the text to support our reasons.
List 2 Sight Words will be sent home on Tuesday. Please practice reading the Sight Words and Phrases. If your child is able to read all of them fluently and accurately, then have them practice spelling the words. Two Reading Logs are due this month. Please have your child read nightly for 15 minutes. Scootpad login information will be sent home tomorrow. Your child may complete Scootpad for extra homework. AR is up and running in the library. If your child is interested in taking AR test the library is open before or after school. They will be learning more about AR this week in the Library. In math, we have been practicing counting and writing our numbers using Counting Bags. We also practiced math groups and how to rotate from one group to the next. Next week we will be focusing on the math standard OA.5 - Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2). We will learn the strategy of counting on. Friday, September 8th will be Teddy Bear Day. Please allow your child to bring a Teddy Bear to school for the day. We will be doing many Teddy Bear themed learning activities throughout the school day. If your child does not have a teddy bear, he or she may borrow one from the classroom.

Ask your mom or dad to tell you some things that you did, what kind of cake did you eat, and what kind of gifts did you receive. Write at least 5 sentences about your 1st birthday. Remember to include a picture or illustration.
